Will Manny Ramirez Get Traded?

With about 24 hours to go the trade rumors in MLB are starting to boil over. The most recognized name being tossed around in trade rumors is none other than Manny Ramirez.

As the proposed deal stands right now the Red Sox would get two outfielders - Mike Cameron from the Mets and Aubrey Huff from the Devil Rays. The Mets would get Manny Ramirez and Tampa Bay closer Danys Baez. The Devil Rays would get "multiple prospects."

Frank Thomas Out for Rest of Season

Looks like the boys on the south side will be losing the big hurt (the always hurt may be more fitting) for the rest of the season because of a foot injury. It would have been nice to have Thomas's bat in the post season. His average so far this year (34 games) sucked, it was at .219, but he did have 12 home runs and 26 RBI's.

Should Baseball Allow Protective Gear for Hitters?

What do you think - should baseball allow protective gear for hitters?

Here are a couple excerpts from the discussion so far:

"Personally, I think it gives the hitter an advantage over the pitcher that he should not have."

"Instep, ankle and shin should be acceptable. The rest should disqualify a batter."

"Speaking from experience of taking one off the inside ankle after the instep. I think ankle and shin guards should be the only extra padding permitted."

Sosa passes Robinson on career HR list

Sammy Sosa hit his 587th home run Wednesday night to move past Frank Robinson into sole possession of fifth place on the career list.

Too bad most of Sosa's home runs were hit while he was juiced...and corking his bat.

It's a shame to see records set by honorable players being surpassed by juiced up cheaters.

Wild Card Standings

As the major league baseball season gets into full swing the race for the wildcard spots are heating up. Of course being a Cubs fan I would love to see the Cubs grab the NL wildcard spot - and I'm sure the White Sox won't need to worry about getting a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

Are the Cubs to Blame For Derrek Lee's Injury?

A new member to the Sports Chat forum posted the following question about the Cubs and Derrek Lee's injury:

"I was in a heated discussion earlier about Derek Lee being hurt simply because the Cubs have abused him and not given him the occasional day off. Do you guys believe as I do that by having rested Lee earlier in the season that this injury that occured this evening could have been prevented?"

What do you think? Did the Cubs cause or should they have done something differently to prevent Lee's injury?
