4 Players and 2 Managers Suspended

Managers Lou Piniella and Terry Francona were among six members of the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays suspended today for their roles in two baseball brawls last week. They each got a 3 game suspension and were fined an undisclosed amount of money for their teams' actions last Sunday. The game was a "good one" - 6 ejections, two intentionally hit batters and more chin music than you 'll normally see over 10 games combined.

Boston pitcher Bronson Arroyo was handed the most severe penalty - a six-game suspension. Tampa Bay pitchers Dewon Brazelton and Lance Carter were each suspended five games, and Boston outfielder Trot Nixon was suspended for two games. All four players were also fined undisclosed amounts.

All six suspensions are scheduled to begin Friday night, unless the players choose to appeal, in which case they can play until their appeal is heard. The managers can't appeal their penalties. Boston visits Texas, and Tampa Bay is at Baltimore on Friday night.

Minimum Age Requirement for the NBA

There's talk in the forum of a minimum age requirement (20 years old) in order to be able to play in the NBA. Early responses from the forum members show they are in favor of it. Here are some early responses:

"It's a great idea. There have been very few players come out of high school and make a difference of any kind with the team that drafted them. It's usually a couple of years before they're "useful" anyway." - Mojo

"Yes, it's a great idea for the NBA. Either that or they should limit (by limit I mean make it like $50,000 - $60,000 / Year) the amount of money they pay players under 20." - Sports Chat

What do you think? Should the NBA impose a minimum age requirement to play in the NBA?

Discuss this in the basketball forum.

Chicago Bulls in the Playoffs

Amazing as it sounds, the Chicago Bulls have actually made it to the NBA playoffs for the first time since Michael Jordan and his supporting cast won the NBA crown in 1998.

There hasn't been much to cheer about when it comes to the Bulls since then. The team has had horrible (and I do mean horrible) seasons ever since Jordan hung up his high tops.

This Chicago fan is behind them during this run. Even though I doubt they will get past the second round, it's still nice to be back in the playoffs.

Talk about the Bulls playoff run in our sports forum.

Lance Armstrong to Retire

Lance Armstrong ended months of fan and media speculation yesterday when he announced that 2005 will be his last year in pro cycling.

"After a lot of thought," said Armstrong, "I decided that this year's Tour de France would be my last race as a professional cyclist."

Lance wants to go out on top and is fully committed to winning the Tour de France this year and retiring as a 7-time tour champ.

Good Luck Lance!

Love for Sports, Hate for Blogger

This content that greets you on this page is published through Blogger, a free service from Google.

This is just a quick entry, unrelated to sports, expressing how frustrating Blogger is. At Sports-Chat we've been unable to update this section of our site for almost a week...

I'm from Chicago so I'm used to being frustrated. When your teams are the Bulls, Bears, Sox & Cubs you get use to being disappointed and frustrated:-)
